Improving Academic Performance with Mindfulness Practice

Improving Academic Performance with Mindfulness Practice

Dr. Georgie Koenig CEO and Dr. Lloyd Kilmer COO presented a session at the annual School of Education Conference last week.   There were over 300 Kansas educators in attendance who listed to keynotes by the Asst. State Commissioner on efforts to transform the K-12 delivery system and the Chief Security Officer from Topeka Public Schools on practical school Safety procedures.

Our session was entitled, “Improving Academic Performance with Mindfulness Practice.”  Performance Learning provides tutoring for children who struggle in school, children of military deployed families and adults with learning challenges in the Quad Cities region. An integral part of helping improve academic performance and behavior is teaching and reinforcing a mindfulness practice.  Research has indicated that a mindfulness or yoga practice can assist with executive functioning and with the dispositions of overcoming a learning disability.   This practice is compatible with the SIM Strategies developed by the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning.

On a personal note, 2018 was the 40th anniversary of Dr. Kilmer’s graduation from KU with his master’s degree.
